1 : Motherhood - This summer, boredom is king
This summer, what will my kids be doing?
I just want them to be BORED.
Growing up, summer for me was synonymous with beach and boredom. It meant lots of down time to read books, play games with cousins, wander around and create.
My favorite memories in the summer don’t come from day trips to the amusement park, but from the things my imagination came up with when I was bored.
When kids are bored one of two things happen:
They complain that they’re bored
They get creative
Next time your kid complains that they’re bored, here are your two options:
-give them a chore
-give them a piece of paper and some art supplies
My 7 and 5 year old kids made these paper dolls this morning. They independently found the paper, markers, pencils and scissors and went to town for a couple of hours.
You’ll be surprised what fun things your kids can come up with when they’re bored (and obviously when there are limits on screen time).
So give it a try, let boredom be king for a day and see the magic happen.
